Novela Studio is built so that we can never read your writing.

What stays on your devices

Your books, chapters, notes, settings and your AI service API key are saved in your browser on your device.
Your API key and your cloud sync recovery code never leave your device, except that the API key is sent to the AI service you chose when you use AI help.

If you turn on cloud sync, the app encrypts each book on your device with your recovery code (AES-256) before uploading it. We store only that scrambled copy, the time it was saved and its size, linked to your license.
We never receive your recovery code, so we cannot open, read or restore your books, and neither can anyone who gains access to our servers.
If you lose your recovery code, the cloud copy cannot be opened. Books on your device are not affected.
To delete the cloud copy, use Settings › Cloud sync › Erase cloud copy. It is removed right away.

A scrambled (one-way hashed) form of your license key, the last 4 characters of the key, and an encrypted copy of it so we can recheck it.
The email address and name on your purchase, and the payment reference, so we can find your key and detect refunds; or, for a free friend key, the name the person who invited you entered for you.
For each device you use (up to 2): a random ID, a short label such as “Safari on iPad”, and the dates it was added and last used.
We use this only to enforce the device limit, to detect refunds, and to help you if you contact us. We don’t sell it or use it for advertising.

Stripe processes your payment through the Causealytics shop. We never see your card details. Stripe’s privacy policy applies to your payment.
Netlify hosts the app and our license records.
Your AI service (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google or OpenRouter, whichever you choose in Settings) receives the text you send to the AI, using your own API key, under your agreement with that service. Writing done with “Write it myself” is never sent to any AI.
The app loads fonts from Google Fonts and two small code libraries from Cloudflare’s cdnjs; those services can see your IP address when they deliver files.

To delete your license record, sign out each device in Settings, or email admin@causealytics.com and we will remove it.
To delete your books, use Export › Delete book, or clear this site’s data in your browser. If cloud sync is on, deleting a book also removes it from the cloud copy.
